Mohammad-Reza Shajarian (born 23 September 1940) is an Iranian classical singer, composer and Ostad (master) of Persian traditional music. He has been called "Iran's greatest living maestro of Persian classical music.Shajarian is also known for his skills in Persian calligraphy, and humanitarian activities.
Shajarian was born in Mashhad, Iran, and started singing at the age of five, under the supervision of his father. At the age of twelve, he began studying the traditional classical repertoire known as the Radif. Shajarian started his singing career in 1959 at Radio Khorasan, rising to prominence in the 1960s with his distinct style of singing. His main teachers were Ahmad Ebadi, Esmaeil Mehrtash, Abdollah Davami, and Nour-Ali Boroumand. He also learned the vocal styles of singers from previous generations, including Reza Gholi Mirza Zelli, Fariborz Manouchehri, Ghamar Molouk Vaziri, Eghbal Azar, and Taj Isfahani. He has cited legendary Iranian tar musician Jalil Shahnaz as highly influential to his development, indicating that he has often tried to mimic Shahnaz's playing style in his singing.

Pasadena, California — On April 13, 2024, at 8:39 PM, officers from the Pasadena Police Department contacted an occupied suspicious vehicle on Hudson Avenue near Del Mar Boulevard. The vehicle, a white pick-up truck, was parked facing the wrong way on a one- way street. As officers were conducting their investigation and conversing with the driver, he suddenly sped off. While doing so, the suspect narrowly missed striking an officer with his truck. Now wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, units initiated a short vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed into the front yard of a home located in the 800 block of Arden Road.

The suspect fled from his vehicle and ran into the residential neighborhood. Officers established a containment and organized a search team to conduct yard-to-yard searches. While fleeing, the suspect forcibly entered two occupied residences. With the assistance of the Pasadena Police Department’s airship, officers located the suspect in the rear yard of a property located in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle. A K9 dog was first to contact the suspect, however, the suspect still refused to surrender. As the K9 dog was engaged with the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun.

The suspect refused to comply with orders to drop the handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. As a result of the shooting, the suspect sustained gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures on the suspect until paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department arrived. Upon arrival, paramedics continued performing life-saving measures and transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased. A handgun was recovered from the shooting scene. No officers were injured during the shooting. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Ricardo Guade Andrade, a San Fernando resident.

A beloved local doctor was shot and killed Friday night in Woodland Hills and police are still searching for a suspect. The victim was identified as Hamid Mirshojae, 61, a doctor who worked at the Warner Plaza Medical Center located at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Oxnard Street.

He was walking to his car when an unknown suspect approached him and shot him multiple times at around 5:34 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
