This easy clarinet duet arrangement of Alan Menken's song 'Colors of the Wind' is from the hit Disney film Pocahontas. It is written very simply and would be ideal for beginners to about UK Grade 2 level. The highest note in Clarinet 1 is top line F on the stave. The tempo is deliberately leisurely; this conveys the calm, measured feel of the piece. This arrangement is available to buy on Sheet Music Plus. Click here to download:

Mozart's Requiem in D minor is one of the most well-loved choral-orchestral works from the entire Classical canon. This arrangement for clarinet quintet is accessible and appropriate for any school, church or concert setting.

The chords begin piano on a rocking rhythm in 12/8, intercut with quarter rests, which will be reprised by the choir after two measures, on Lacrymosa dies illa ("This tearful day"). Then, after two measures, the soprano line begin a diatonic progression, in disjointed eighth-notes on the text resurget ("will be reborn"), then legato and chromatic on a powerful crescendo. The choir is forte by m. 8, at which point Mozart's contribution to the movement is interrupted by his death.

Franz Süssmayr who completed the work, brings the choir to a reference of the Introit and ends on an Amen cadence. Discovery of a fragmentary Amen fugue in Mozart's hand has led to speculation that it may have been intended for the Requiem. Some sections of this movement are quoted in the Requiem mass of Franz von Suppé, who was a great admirer of Mozart.

Learn to play the Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon Theme with this easy clarinet tutorial. Play along with the backing track, sheet music, and fingerings for beginners ♫ Printable sheet music available at https://www.musicnotes.com/l/dRBM8

Composed by Ramin Djawadi in 2011, the main title theme for the HBO fantasy television show Game of Thrones was so iconic that it was later reused for the opening titles of the prequel series House of the Dragon. Djawadi focused on cello as the main instrument for the theme, feeling that flute and violin were overused in fantasy music.

In the wind concertos, for bassoon, horn (four completed works), flute, flute and harp, oboe and, above all, clarinet, Mozart shows a deep understanding of each instrument’s character and technique.

Most of Mozart’s Wind Concertos can best be described as occasional pieces, composed on commissions from professional and amateur players, often with the express purpose of providing income for their composer and satisfying a particular trait, taste or talent of the recipient. In this respect they are very different from the Piano and Violin Concertos. The major exception is the late Clarinet Concerto (K622) written for Mozart’s fellow freemason and friend, Anton Stadler. Stadler was to have a great influence on Mozart’s writing for the clarinet, including the notable solos for the instrument in the final Italian opera La Clemenza di Tito. This Concerto, together with the companion Clarinet Quintet (K581) stands as one of Mozart’s undisputed masterpieces. That being said, the earlier Concertos all have something individual to say for themselves and occasionally reach considerable peaks of inspiration. Hardly the most obvious of instruments for a solo Concerto, Mozart’s first Wind Concerto is nevertheless written for the Bassoon. The grumbling, growling giant can, however, be an affectionate and witty instrument and that is how Mozart obviously sees it. It is significant too, that despite his less than conventional choice of solo player, the Concerto has something about it that shows the piece is throughout conceived only for the Bassoon with its own very definite characteristics. This is Mozart’s only Concerto for the instrument and it was composed in Salzburg in 1774 for the composer’s friend and amateur player of the bassoon and the piano, Thaddaeus von Duernitz. Mozart did later write a bassoon sonata for his friend as well as several piano pieces including three of his Concertos. The work is in the three conventional movements for a Concerto of the time (Fast – Slow – Fast) and generally light hearted and playful in the opening Allegro and final French styled Rondo, with lots of leaps and jumps and runs for the soloist and sweet singing tones evident in the central Andante.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, K. 581, was written in 1789 for the clarinetist Anton Stadler. A clarinet quintet is a work for one clarinet and a string quartet (two violins, a viola and a cello). Although originally written for basset clarinet, it is almost always played on a clarinet in A or B-flat. It was Mozart's only completed clarinet quintet, and is one of the earliest and best-known works written especially for the instrument. It remains exceptionally popular today due to its lyrical melodies, with the second movement the best known. A fragment of score exists for a second (though possibly written first) clarinet quintet in B-flat, of which a complete exposition survives. It is possible that Mozart completed the movement, as the score continues into the development section on the last surviving page. This fragment is unlikely to be a sketch, as it bears no marks of correction. Nevertheless, the A major quintet is Mozart's sole surviving complete work for clarinet quintet.
The composer indicated that the work was finished on 29 September 1789. This quintet is sometimes referred to as the Stadler Quintet; Mozart so described it in a letter of April 1790. It consists of four movements:
1. Allegro, 4/4
2. Larghetto, 3/4 in D major
3. Menuetto — Trio I — Trio II, 3/4 (Trio I in A minor)
4. Allegretto con Variazioni, 2/2
There are a number of similarities between this quintet and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto. Both are in the same key of A major and were written for the same soloist, Anton Stadler. Both pieces are written for the basset clarinet which has an extended lower range. Also, the first theme of the first movement of each piece begins with a falling minor third. Both the second movements are in the same key (D major) and have similar characters, although they have different tempo markings. There is a direct quotation of two bars in the clarinet line in the second movement of the Concerto of that in the Quintet.
Mozart also wrote a trio for clarinet, viola and piano for Stadler, the so-called Kegelstatt Trio, in 1786.
Alfred Einstein (Mozart: His Character and Work, page 194) notes that while the clarinet "predominates as primus inter pares" (first amongst equals) this is nonetheless "chamber music work of the finest kind" and the roles are distributed more equally than they would be in a more concertante quintet for wind and strings.
Along with his Clarinet Concerto, Mozart's Clarinet Quintet is considered one of Pope Benedict XVI's favorite works of music. The Quintet was famously used in "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen", the final episode of the television series M*A*S*H. A subplot of the episode has one of the main characters, Major Charles Winchester, teaching the piece to a group of Chinese prisoners of war.
